Project description Sis Reach for your Dreams General project information Project name: Sis `Reach For Your Dreams` Project type (practical/research/policy):practical and research Intended for interns from following study fields: Sport Coaches, Social work students, Management and physiotherapy students. Total project duration: ongoing Preferred starting period: flexible Number of students required: 10 Project description Background of the project: We work in areas around Cape Town and the Western Cape which is plagued by unemployment and anti-social activities. We use the art of sport especially football and boxing/gym ;to build relationships with the participants in order to assist them in other personal development opportunities. Problem statement: The communities we work within have `lost` hope due to the ongoing perceived hopeless situation they find themselves in; children dropping out of school and joining gangs and throwing themselves into substance abuse. Goal: To bring `hope` back. Ensure alternative activities are in place to positively occupy young people. Role of the intern: To help in the execution of activities and to do KAP surveys in all areas. Of course we are looking for students/volunteers that will actively contribute to the work and programmes of Sis. I believe that we can only deliver better service with more information sharing. We require staff in all departments at Sis. The students through this means will also gather much more when they return back to their studies. Application of their experience within their studies. Specific activities: Actively engaging with the target audience. Students to be flexible enough to get practically involved within the community setting. I am looking for Sport Coaches, Social work students, Management and physiotherapy students. Measurable end product (report/advice/development/product): The student/volunteer is able to report on progress /development of the Sis programme and to possibly assist in designing /enhancing existing programme. Weekly reporting at staff meetings is essential. Facilities for intern Supervision on appropriate project field: Degree of supervisor: N/A we can get an external supervisor.
