Zanzibar Substance Addiction Rehabilitation project General project information Project name: Sober house Project type (practical/research/policy): practical and research. Intended for interns from following study fields: social work, sociology, psychology, research, health studies, and any related field. Total project duration: from 2 weeks to six months. Preferred starting period: any time. Number of students required: 6. Project description Background of the project: Zanzibar has high use of drugs and alcohol in east Africa, and many addicted people are in sober houses around the country. Therefore interns and volunteers could come to Zanzibar helping those trying to recover from their addiction, thereby we are giving an opportunity to interns and volunteers who want to conduct a research on this project. Problem statement: Many young people in sober house aiming to recuperate needing help. Goal: to help young people trying to end use of drugs and alcohol in sober house. Role of the intern: providing counselling and therapy services, explaining the effects of being drug addicted, assisting with mental health and positive behavioural support, providing civil educations, etc. Specific activities: counselling, therapeutic procedures, writing reports. Measurable end product (report/advice/development/product): report. Facilities for intern Supervision on appropriate project field: available both in sober house and accommodation. Degree of supervisor: bachelor. Workspace for intern: available. Introduction and guidance during project: orientation will be conducted in first days on project and volunteering life on the island. Accommodation options: Guesthouse in Stone Town. Intern requirements Intern characteristics/qualities: willing to help, good conduct and no any experience needed.
